This video package is the first of
its kind in Australia in that it addresses the little known emotional abuse
which is a significant part of domestic violence.
The package information has important ramifications as it challenges social
myths; the most notable of these being ‘domestic violence is NOT just
physical’.
It is our understanding that services will have varying degrees of knowledge
concerning these complex issues; therefore, we would like to offer training
to prospective purchasers in order that the potential of the package is
fully realised. A small fee, depending on service location and travel time,
will be required to cover facilitator costs.
All profits derived from the video package sales and training will go
towards Hunter Regional Women and Children New Direction Foundation. This
foundation will provide emergency relocation funds for Hunter women and
children to move from dangerous situations to safety.
The THROUGH NEW EYES video package has been set up to:
-
Identify the hidden dynamics of abusive
relationships and examine the underlying complex power and control tactics.
-
Assist those who are experiencing
non-physical aspects of domestic violence.
-
Dispel the prevalent and pervasive
community myths regarding non-physical aspects of domestic violence.
-
Educate specialist workers in child
protection, education, emergency services, health and welfare sectors
through a structured, self-paced CD and video learning package.
The package contains:
-
A CD ROM (IBM compatible) containing
videos 1 and 2 and a Facilitator’s Handbook including relevant handouts on
domestic violence for self-directed learning and professional development.
-
Video One: ‘More Than Just Physical’
examines the hidden dynamics of domestic violence over a five year
relationship.
-
Video Two: ‘Barriers To Leaving’
depicts a domestic violence support group and explores four women’s past and
present issues.
-
Video Three: ‘Wising Up’ deals with the
inter-generational nature of abuse and strategies to deal with it.
-
Video Four: ‘Continuous Play’ is a
compilation of Video One and Two and is designed for use in community
service centres and public venues. It includes relevant referral
information.
